WEDDING WEDNESDAY - WHY WE CHOSE A LONG ENGAGEMENT
When people get engaged, its already assumed that wedding planning is going to immediately start and a wedding will be around the corner. The length of an average engagement is about a year. In our case, that wasn’t it.
We will be engaged for 2 years and 7 months on our wedding day.
When Morgan and I got engaged, we already knew we wanted a long engagement. When I told people our wedding day it was always the response of, “WOW that’s really far away!”
To us, being engaged wasn’t just about planning the wedding to get married. It was another serious commitment we made to each other before that day.
we wanted a specific day… the day Morgan asked me to be her girlfriend. Picking a random day to get married made me sad to think that we wouldn’t celebrate the day that we chose each other.
we wanted to experience being engaged without the wedding planning pressure. There’s something special about calling each other fiancés. We wanted this season of our lives to be special and embrace all that it is.
There’s time to plan our marriage. A wedding lasts for couple hours, and a marriage lasts a lifetime. We had so many conversations about our future before we got engaged but continued conversations are a must. The blending of families, traditions you want to start together, family planning, finances, etc.
(I am very open about this!) these conversations also included creating a prenuptial agreement. With the amount of divorces we have witnessed in our lives and the stats on divorce, this is something we are both very passionate about when it comes to our marriage.
a long engagement meant we could take more time looking at wedding vendors and really taking the time to decide on what we wanted and who we wanted
